Railway King, steam trains that pay in both directions

Nine lines, both ways
There are just nine lines, but they pay from left to right and from right to left. A single line can therefore pay twice on one spin, except that five of a kind is only paid once. At bet 1 and a denomination of 0.01, all nine cost MPV 0.09.

What does paying in both directions mean?
A line can pay from the left reel or from the right reel, as long as the symbols sit on consecutive reels. The help screen says one line can pay twice in a spin, but a five of a kind pays only once.
